چکیده
Abstract. Ozone data derived from the Tropospheric Monitoring Instrument (TROPOMI) sensor on board Sentinel-5 Precursor satellite show exceptionally low total ozone columns in polar region of Northern Hemisphere (Arctic) spring 2020. Minimum column values around or below 220 Dobson units (DU) were seen over Arctic for 5 weeks March and early April Usually persistence such is only observed Southern (Antarctic) not Arctic. These record caused by a particularly strong vortex stratosphere with persistent cold at higher latitudes, prerequisite depletion through heterogeneous chemistry. Based ERA5, which fifth generation European Centre Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) atmospheric reanalysis, winter 2019/2020 (from December to March) showed minimum cap temperatures consistently 195 K 20 km altitude, enabled enhanced formation stratospheric clouds. The special situation 2020 compared discussed context two other seasons, namely those 1997 2011, also displayed relatively values. However, during these years, DU several consecutive days spring. similarities differences conditions three events possible explanations features are presented discussed. It becomes apparent that monthly mean value (221 DU) was clearly respective found (267 2011 (252 DU), highlights evolution layer A comparison typical hole Antarctic (e.g., 2016) indicates although remarkable, considerable area (up 0.9 million km2), shows typically 150 much larger (of order km2). Furthermore, about 4 months.

Investigation of Arctic ozone depletion sampled over midlatitudes during the Egrett campaign of spring / summer 2000
A unique halocarbon dataset has been obtained using the Australian high altitude research aircraft, the Grob G520T Egrett, during May–June 2000 with GC instrument (DIRAC), which has been previously deployed on balloon platforms. The halocarbon data generally shows a good anticorrelation with ozone data obtained simultaneously from commercial sensors. On 5 June 2000, at 380 K, the Egrett entered...

متن کاملArctic smoke – record high air pollution levels in the European Arctic due to agricultural fires in Eastern Europe in spring
In spring 2006, the European Arctic was abnormally warm, setting new historical temperature records. During this warm period, smoke from agricultural fires in Eastern Europe intruded into the European Arctic and caused the most severe air pollution episodes ever recorded there. This paper confirms that biomass burning (BB) was indeed the source of the observed air pollution, studies the transpo...

15 صفحه اولSpring snow melt timing and changes over Arctic lands
Spring snow cover over Arctic lands has, on average, melted approximately 4-7 days earlier since the late 1980s compared to the previous 20 years. The earlier disappearance of snow has been identified in non-mountainous regions at the 60o and 70oN parallels over Eurasia and North America using visible satellite observations of continental snow cover extent (SCE) mapped by the National Oceanic a...
